Design Approach

Our Approach to our Projects is based on a commitment to exceptional design that is inclusive, responsive to the environment, and stewards in a progressive and thoughtful future.

Diversity

houdinidesign ARCHITECTS is one of few women-led firms in Atlantic Canada. We celebrate and embrace diversity, in all its forms, and hope that our work contributes to this initiatives.

Reconciliation

houdinidesign ARCHITECTS acknowledges that our business resides in Mi’kma’ki, on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” signed in 1726. We are committed to approaching our work as inspired by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s final report and recommendations, and thus our methodology includes collaborations with First Nations communities to contribute to a sustainable, inspired future via our process of dialogue and design.

Accessibility

We believe that the essence of successful design is always inclusive and accessible, able to be experienced and enjoyed by everyone. As with all our current projects, houdinidesign ARCHITECTS follows the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification (RHFAC) program through which we are working diligently toward Silver and Gold certifications for all our future projects.

Sustainability

houdinidesign ARCHITECTS pays close attention to landscape and ecology in our work, energy efficiency and innovation in environmental responsibility. We are continually developing our repertoire in this regard, forging new partnerships to explore efficiencies and waste reduction in construction. We are inspired by the site for our projects, the projects relationship to the beautiful landscape in its sightlines, but also as a model building to present the best in design, technology and energy innovation.
